For many people, the working day now revolves around screens. Computers, tablets and smartphones dominate both our professional and personal lives, and research suggests this constant exposure is taking a toll on our eyes.
A recent report from VSP Vision Care found that desk workers spend almost 100 hours a week looking at screens. During the working week alone, that equates to 93% of waking hours focused on digital devices.
Unsurprisingly, this level of screen time is contributing to a rise in visual discomfort. The research revealed that 71% of desk workers experience symptoms linked to screen use, including tired eyes, blurred vision and headaches. For many employees, the impact is significant enough to affect productivity, with workers reporting an average 18.6% drop in efficiency due to visual discomfort.
The Role of Glare and Scattered Light
One factor that can contribute to digital eye strain is unwanted glare and light scatter from screens and artificial lighting. When stray light reaches the eye, it can reduce contrast and make it harder to maintain focus. Over time, this can cause the eyes to work harder than they should, which may lead to fatigue.
Lens coatings designed to manage how light interacts with the lens surface can help improve visual clarity and support more comfortable vision throughout the day.
Honeycomb Coating – Inspired By Nature
Jai Kudo’s Honeycomb coating is designed to help reduce glare and improve visual clarity. Inspired by the honeycomb structure found in beehives, the coating creates a matrix of microscopic hexagonal cells on the lens surface.
This structure helps distribute light more evenly across the lens, which can reduce scattered light and improve contrast. The result is crisper, clearer vision and greater visual comfort, whether working on a computer, reading or driving in challenging lighting conditions.

Honeycomb coating also includes Hydro+ coating as standard, providing:
- Crisper, sharper vision with optimum clarity
- Reduces scattered light and glare
- Helps reduce eye fatigue*
- UV protection (up to 360nm) on a 1.5 index**
- Scratch resistant
- Easy to clean
- Anti-reflective qualities to virtually eliminate reflections on the lens surfaces
- Super-hydrophobic layer to repel water and oils
In normal conditions the lenses appear completely clear, with the honeycomb design only visible under very close inspection or when the lens becomes misted.
Supporting Comfortable Vision in a Screen-first World
With screen use continuing to increase, solutions that help reduce glare and support visual comfort are becoming increasingly important.
By taking inspiration from nature’s efficient design, the Honeycomb coating offers a simple way to help wearers see more clearly and comfortably throughout the day.
